looking back on 2011
1. what did you do in 2011 that you’d never done before? nothing of too much significance.  but i pushed myself towards some new challenges. i changed my career in a way and i completed my first half ironman.  i’m proud of a lot of things this year, but next year i hope to answer this question a bit differently. 2. did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make...

destined to be without a garbage disposal?
looking like it. i know life could be way worse, but i’m starting to get a wee bit frustrated with the daily kitchen drama. stay tuned…

beach2battleship half ironman race recap
this is a rather long detailed race report, more for my own record keeping than anything.   last weekend i finished my first half iron distance triathlon.  i loved it. every second. even the hours leading up to the start when i was nervous and grumpy and cold. and even during my wall, when i was so pissed bc i was realizing it was more than possible, likely even, that i wasn’t going to...

feeling thankful
i’m thankful for so much right now. mostly, for the sake of this post, i’m thankful for my health. i’m feeling strong these days.  like really great, which after a shaky start to the year, is pretty incredible.  a week ago today i finished my first half ironman (distance) tri, slowly, but i did it.  today i knocked out over 10 miles and felt like i could easily keep going....

on soul mates
i don’t really care for her or her writing, but i did take to this… People think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that’s what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that is holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life. A true soul mate is probably the most important person you’ll...

tuck and roll
this picture really has nothing to do with anything, but i didn’t have the patience to find the clip that i wanted, so this is a pretty placeholder. deal. today while out on my run i totally bit it. i tripped about 2 blocks into my run, feeling good, pony tail boppin, tunes tuning sweat dripping (thank you dc summer) and i just tripped. there was no saving myself either. there was...

on getting up early
i love getting up early. i love being awake and starting my day by 6 at the latest. this is not to say that i am a morning person. no, indeed i am not. ask anyone that i have ever lived with. ask my college roommate who was the world’s worst sleeper and somehow i can still call her one of my best friends even after four years of battling my ability to ignore my alarm clock for 45 minute stretches...

2/3s there
training has been really different this year.  after my failed (i know, i’m still being a drama queen about it) marathon attempt in march, i have taken a really relaxed and completely unorganized approach to training, trying to just enjoy tuning my body after a squishy winter of only running.  it’s not at all my style, but has been really enjoyable. i have had rough goals for each week...

among the reasons why i love running
stolen from healthytippingpoint.com Running doesn’t care if you don’t have nice clothes or fancy gadgets. Running is always there for you, wherever you need it. Running doesn’t care if you’re slow or fast. Running rewards you when you work hard and is surprisingly forgiving when you slack off. Running teaches you to like sweating.  It means you’re doing a good job! Running doesn’t care if...

gotta get it off my chest
the national marathon is tomorrow. last year i ran the half and it was easily the most fun i have ever had in a road race. i LOVED that day. it set the tone for an amazing year of running, riding and fitness.   this year, i was supposed to run the full, but my IT band became a problem. i’m super loose now, but it’s too late, i had to rest too long.  i will run a marathon. i’m...

heeeeeeeello 27! again.
the squeeze says that when you turn 30 you get to start “lying” about your age.  so everyone, i’d like to announce that in 5.5 hours i’ll be turning 27 again - not 30.

getting to know the family
i think by far one of the most interesting and fulfilling part of aging is getting to know your family as adults.  this man is the single person in this world who has known me for all of my 29 years and 364 days (and 8 hours and 52 minutes).  your relationship with your parents evolves and eventually you plop out of the nest and hope that they have tried their very hardest to teach you sunk in...

why aging isn't scary but is actually slightly...
today, i’m just going to take a few pieces from another blog i read recently. i thought about just using it as inspiration, but i think it sums up why aging, at least this particular milestone, isn’t scary.  also, the other day i told someone that if i had to be 15 for my entire life, instead of watching time march on, i would. the sentiment was there, but the concept is ridiculous....

the good side
it ain’t no secret that i would give just about anything to stop the clock this week. but, instead, i’m focusing on the good every day up to and including the big day (my heart races and my throat swells as i type this….XANAX?!!?) what do i get to do as a result of turning 30?  I GET TO BUILD MY DREAM BIKE (thanks, papa one T!!)!  i think i hesitated in getting started bc i...

ten confessions on a thursday
sometimes in the morning, i let my alarm continue to ‘sleep’ in case i want to take a quick nap before work i have at least a little chocolate, every single day. and it shows, but that’s okay. i read my kindle every day. but i also read my book with real pages every day too. i can’t let go. i have been watching saved by the bell (almost) every morning while i get ready...
