happy birthday grandma wick!
yeah, she doesn’t read this.  i’m not even sure she knows how to turn a computer on.  but, today is my mom’s mom’s birthday.  i love my family, anyone that knows me knows this.  i mean, i adore each and every member of my family.  a ridiculous amount.  and i dont think i ever tell them that.  but since my mom died, i have always felt a little (i’m talking a teeny tiny...

true story
i’m feeling pretty okay at the moment, but when i’m feeling shitty, it’s usually that darn cross (we all have one) come out to play.  it’s so evil too because i love the world and people around me and at the same time i’m feeling my inner evil, i’m also spilling with happiness and joy for all my favorite people. the cross i bare stated best by Anne Lamott (and...

my inauguration pics →
i’m a little obamaed out.  shocking, i know.  but still, folks are asking, which i do love.  so, in case there are any of my peeps out there in tumblr land that didn’t see them who want to, follow the link to my pics.  i’m just to lazy to write about it.  holler if you want to chat though cause it was a GREAT weekend that i’m certain i’ll never forget.

nap test part two
be prepared for a real UNinteresting story of the purchase of my living room furniture.  i’m bored, what can i say.  and there is homework to do that i don’t want to be doing. so, this weekend arnie’s mom, t and i gave the ole couch shopping trip a second go.  the first time i don’t think i was ready to pull the trigger.  that and i’m pretty sure i only saw real...

because we're on the subject...
the inaugural committee has taken some (certainly could be more) steps to planning this weekend’s inauguration events with sustainability in mind. green carpet runner at the swearing in is made of recycled materials (green carpets are actually becoming more and more the norm). recycle bins will be littering (har) the mall.  this should always be the case.  but it is not.  these are special...

the GREEN inaugural ball
dc is a little obamatastic at the moment.  inauguration this, inauguration that.  its mayhem, and i’m 100% totally wrapped up in it.  so, for a green moment:  if you are in dc and looking for something to do, take a gander at this.  its the information for the GREEN inaugural ball.  why?  because there. is. a. ball. for. everything.  i won’t be there, but i’m supporting it in...

obama's girls
the other day i questioned people who run for president (and becomepresident) when they have a family like obama does.  in parade, he does a decent job at addressing that.  (i’m choosing to ignore his plea for privacy for them)

tomatoes - hypnotizing?
for EVER, i have been a tomato hater.  i try them. i want to like them.  heck, i want to at least not hate them, but not too long ago i came to the conclusion that it is simply not to be no mater how many times i try to eat even the freshest and most assuredly delicious ones.  and that my only hope is perhaps pregnancy and the crazy cravings that ladies with a bun in the oven are rumored to get. ...

donate your used holiday cards!
yup, you heard it right and you heard it here.  st judes children’s ranch has a great recycled holiday card program and they are accepting donations now!  sounds weird, but, it’s really pretty neat-o.  check it out.  my office is collecting cards and you should too!  its st. judes, so its obviously a super awesome cause and worth the small extra step to send cards into them rather than...

obama mania starting in the metro stations...
these rockers where in the foggy bottom stop.  flashing lights, crazy shirts…the works!  the pic was taken in haste as my train was pulling up.  but, i couldn’t resist.  put a buck in their cup, sang along (motown!), took a pic and hopped on the train… and for you locals, don’t forget to put cash on your card BEFORE the 20th.  before that weekend probably. can’t...

more on the EGLU!  →
loving the name, by the way.  after my cuz brought to my attention the winter woes that might come with such a coop, i looked a bit further into my dream for a chicken coop on my fire escape (or in et’s backyard? comeon guys, you know you want one!), which, people!, i already know i’m not REALLY going to do.  (but if i had the resources, i so would. for now, i’ll remain satisfied...

obama girls start school →
this has always been something that bothered me.  a huge part of me thinks those who want to be president, need to leave notions of family behind.  i don’t think its fair for kids to grow up with that.  on the other hand, i like knowing that my president has been up to something valuable.  i just really feel for the kids. do we really need picture of the girls getting ready for school? ...

my dad planted three aspen trees in his back yard several years ago. one is me, one is my mom and the third is my dad.  i will be sad when he moves away from this little memorial to our family. in the front, there is also a great tree that i planted something like 25 years ago.  from an acorn.  me thinks i have been a tree hugger from the get go.

kickin it old skool
papa one-t and i took a stoll through the safety deposit box at the hometown bank the other day and i discovered the ole softy has a folder in there labeled ‘sentimental’ where i found gems like my dirty little footsies above.  so, yes, i spose my feet have always been ginormous. on september 23, 1982, i drawed my first drawing.

holy smokes!
papa one-t had never made his ridiculously delicious smoked bbq baby back ribs for the squeeze before. at thanksgiving, he promised that when we were back in chi over the holidays, it would be so.  and so it was on one glorious and sunny afternoon at casa one-t.  but, not without a quick trip to costco.  of course. first, time to fire up the smoker.  but, we were out of lighter fluid and...
