getting to know the family

trav

i think by far one of the most interesting and fulfilling part of aging is getting to know your family as adults.  this man is the single person in this world who has known me for all of my 29 years and 364 days (and 8 hours and 52 minutes).  your relationship with your parents evolves and eventually you plop out of the nest and hope that they have tried their very hardest to teach you sunk in and works out in practice.

sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn’t. but it doesn’t really matter because they are still there to help pick up the pieces and sort out the solution. they take on a different role and sure, i still look to my dad for the answers and often take what he says too much to heart but as i get older, i get a glimpse into how they work out their own shit too. and that’s a whole other form of teaching.

you see their faults a bit clearer and see their areas of expertise a bit better. for me anyway, a friendship has grown out of it all that is the most unique out there. though i can’t really articulate this in the way i want to, i think you all know what i mean.

here’s to my best friend, papa one t!

and here’s to the last 15 hours!
